This is the fourth movement of the “German Requiem,” a major work written by Brahms in his mid-30s for chorus and orchestra. Although it is the shortest movement in the entire work, it features a highly varied structure. It is arranged for double choir, with the roles of the chorus and orchestra alternating between the first and second halves.
