MEEFAR, Kenneth : Brass Octet

Brass octet based on nordic folk songs which consists of 7 movements. One third of the suite is arrangement of previously composed folk songs, another one third is music structured by using phrase and motifs from folk songs, and the last one third is newly composed music inspired by those folk songs.

BIBER, Heinrich Ignaz Franz von / arr. NAKAMURA, Takashi : Brass Octet

Sonata Sancti Polycarpi was composed by Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber in 1673 for 8 trumpets, timpani and basso continuo. This arrangement is for two choirs of 3 trumpets and trombone each. Original pitch is in C (one note higher).

CASTELLO, Dario / arr. NAKAMURA, Takashi : Brass Decet

Sonata No.16 is composed by Dario Castello who was an instrumentalist (probably cornettist at St Marc.) in Venice in the first half of the 17 century. This piece is included in the second volume of his sonatas (published at Venice in 1629). The theme and the subtitle are not attached to this piece, however it is a song reminiscent of the war that was a fashion at the time. In this arrangement, taking advantage of the change in the musical thought, original 4 parts composition is expanded to ten parts, and in a style that the two quintets play as if two team are battling each other.

SCHMELZER, Johann Heinrich / arr. NAKAMURA, Takashi : Brass Octet

"Aria per il Balletto a Cavallo" was composed by Johann Heinrich Schmelzer for the Wedding ceremony of the Emperor Leopold held on January 24, 1667. Those pieces were played by many trumpets, trombones and strings. And the horse ballet was displayed with the choreography. Here, five pieces are arranged for 8 part brass ensemble which contains two banda trumpets.
